Syllabus:

Class 1: Everything the Jewish Bible Says about Food
Why are Jews obsessed with food? We learned it from the Torah! So many mitzvot are associated with food, and it seems like the Torah wants us to be very careful with what we put in our bodies. This class will be overview of all the Torah passages that refer directly to what we can and can't eat, and basic exploration of everyone's favorite question, "why?"

Class 2: The Foods that Are Forbidden
Based on our exploration in Class 1, we look at the food items of today and ask, what's really not kosher? How does our modern food supply work with Kashrut? We will come away with a better understanding of how food becomes kosher certified and what to watch out for in the kitchen.

Class 3: Milk & Meat May Never Mix?
Two perfectly kosher food items get together and... have non-kosher offspring? This mysterious mitzvah will be unmasked, along with the most common questions that arise in peoples' kitchens. The answers may surprise you!

Class 4: How to Kasher Things, aka, The Kashering
So you want to try kosher, eh? First thing is to "kasher" the kitchen – to make all the pots, pans, sinks, counters and more kosher! But how does one go about it? Time to get your blowtorch, safety gloves and ask some questions!
